Mitt would be challenged for laughs this time

It may  only be faulty guesswork, but Mitt Romney's decision to write himself  out of the comedic GOP presidential script may have come down to his painful belief that he  would never be as funny as all of the others in the race. Having exhausted many of his one-liners the last time, how could he possibly entertain the voters at the level of say, Mike Huckabee or Bobby Jindal?    Or feel so empty with Sarah Palin, who is sort of the Phyllis Diller of  her own Comedy Central,  in front of a convulsing audience?   (Diller dubbed her husband "Fang"; with Palin, it has been "First Dude".... Ha! and again...Ha!)  Even a columnist as talented a Gail Collins couldn't  drain much more humor from her references to the family dog that Mitt had strapped to the roof of his car. Nothing lasts forever.
