For GOP, another defining cattle call

We are now quickly  approaching the Republicans' next defining millennial  moment in their guarantee of life, liberty and the pursuit of Barack Obama.  There are reports out of the GOP-controlled House of Representatives that it will vote on Wednesday to repeal the Affordable Care Act.  Nobody doubts that it will.  The cattle call has gone out to the all of the party's representatives suffering from what appears to be post-traumatic stress disorders  to close the deal in the wake of the Supreme Court decision.    Not that it will make a whit of difference.  This is purely stagecraft.  It leads me to wonder why it isn't listed in the New York Times' off-Broadway lineup.  And why the reps are paid with taxpayers' money to produce the farce.

Given the amount of completed work GOP Congressionals have completed lately, we should consider their salaries another form of welfare for the the disadvantaged. Do you suppose that show their photo id when picking up their paycheck?

The latest House vote on repealing all or part of the new health care law was couched by the majority Republicans as an effort to foil the "tax" on the free-riders who now go uninsured but remain eligible under federal law for free treatment at hospital emergency rooms. Since nothing in health care is truly "free," such costs now are paid in part by higher health insurance premiums paid by those of us who are covered by insurance. Calling the fine on free-riders a tax, as Supreme Court Chief Justice put it in ruling on the constitutionality of the law, fits neatly into the anti-tax mantra of the GOP and provides another opportunity for Republican candidates this fall to run TV ads blasting Democrat House members for "raising" taxes on the free-riders.
