Care to take your chances on toxic drinking water supplies

DID YOU NOTICE the news article that said Wingfoot Lake and a couple of Geauga County reservoirs have been put under advisories for high levels of toxins? The problems - which have not yet reached Akron's drinking water supply - turned up in warnings from the Ohio Department of Health , Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Agency. Knowing how much conservatives hate government, do you think we should we simply get rid of water testing and take our chances? Just asking.

Those who favor market based solutions will tell you to privatize municipal utilities such as a water supply. We could then have the low bidder certifying the safety of drinking water; or, more likely, the anonymous and high donor for whatever political group in power would tell us what's safe to drink.
For lovers of salmonella, you'll go wild with cholera.

Privatize? That's the elixir of eternal life for everyone with a hand in the trough. I merely ask the privatizers to see what happened when Medicare was put in the hands of private insurers. Administrative costs for the new system rose from about 3 pct. to 19 or 20 pct. Hmmm...And what had to make up the difference? .

Privatize? Ask those in a subdivision that are on private water and sewer company (Ohio American Water), completely surrounded by Columbus and Westerville public water systems. The price of water and sewer is three times the rate of surounding communities, and it has decimated home values. Apparently, I got out just in time...
